16th November 2009
Good morning

In last week's survey, we asked - Do you outsource any or all of your wide format print work?

128 respondents gave answers to this survey and the following were the results:
Always             24
Never                44
Sometimes       60

With all the outsourcing of work that takes place in our industry, it pays to be listed in the "Find a Printer" directory if you want to attract this kind of work. There is a directory for each state as well as New Zealand. If you have not taken advantage of the free listing in the Wide Format Printer Directory, you could be missing out on sales opportunities. Click here to be listed free of charge.

Comments received were as follows:

  • Have a decent artwork upload facility and job feedback/progress web site.
  • They are spot on in service, they deliver on time and quality is good.
  • I use a number of print partners, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses. By doing this, I can pick the supplier that best suits my quality needs, timelines and price considerations. I find that the 5 major ones I use all service me excellently. In the past I gave all my print to one supplier and it was then that I got myself into trouble. I still use that printer, but only for the types of print that best suit them.
  • Not much I appreciate his prompt service and reasonable prices.
  • 1) I do not outsource offshore currently, but I do feel I may have no choice in the future. We are a trade only supplier of wide format print and we try to sell based on a mix of service, quality and quick turnarounds when needed. It may be sometime before the outsourced work can realistically compete with these things, but it does not stop my business from being compared to outsourced work. The future will be an interesting one for this market. 2) NA
  • If we get an order for anything larger than what we can print (usually banners). We use a local company that is in the same suburb & his prices are reasonable & his service prompt & efficent. Quality is excellent & his not trying to undercut local signwriters by selling products at prices we can't compete with. He has a trade price & then his RRP price, so we can get things done by them & still sell it for the same price as they do & make a profit They also finish banners off for us, cheaper than anywhere else & usually done the same day
  • not offshore company we use is reliable and provides good quality
  • 1) Your outsourcing partner is offshore? NEVER 2) If your outsourcing partner is local, What do you think they should do to improve their service? Nothing the guy I go to for 3m wide printing is JUST DOWN THE ROAD I HATE PRINT MILES AS MUCH AS I HATE FOOD MILES!!!! ha ha
  • 1) Your outsourcing partner is offshore? I hope not!!
  • Have my own printer, & do work for several other companies here & interstate.
  • We print inhouse up to 1800mm but outsource extra wide prints off shore.
  • 2) If your outsourcing partner is local, What do you think they should do to improve their service? Lower prices, they provide very good service.
  • I always outsource within Australia as I find overseas is tooo much hassle and understanding of what I want is limited.
  • Not the actual printing work - we have two wide format machines. However, because we are husband and wife operation and wide format is only part of our work and we do not have the time to provide installation of printed jobs we will outscource this work.
  • Local provider. Service is good.
  • We do not have the call for much of this type of work, so I would, if need be, get it outsourced to a fellow industry partner, local preferably.
  • They can supply better technical information and advise about what products are best suited for each job request.
  • My supplier is pretty good.
  • Usually pretty happy. Like most others, turn around time is probably the biggest issue, and to know the quality will also be there
  • local, no problems usually.
  • We only outsource for prints over 1360mm wide and have a very good supplier who those a very good job all round job.
  • I only keep to what I can do inhouse - this always keeps me busy and I have total control over quality and delivery.
  • We're a company in country South Australia and often outsource to Adelaide. Up until 12 months ago, everything wide format was outsourced to several Adelaide companies. We now have our own wide format printer and only need to outsource anything larger than 1370mm or jobs where we can't justify purchasing a specialty whole roll of media.
  • I outsource some of our wide format work locally - generally the work that I am not confident in doing. We have only been into wide format since January and there are some aspects that I need to learn more about. It's better to outsource these than to do a half baked job through lack of experience. I have two main suppliers that I use in Sydney and their guidance and support has been invaluable. I use a local supplier in town - we have a gentleman's agreement not to step in on each other's clients, which works exceptionally well. I use her predominantly for installs and send work her way when I am on overload. This is a reciprical arrangement. My suppliers have been absolutely brilliant with the level of support and I couldn't ask for more. I had one experience with outsourcing to an overseas banner supplier before I invested in wide format and while the turnaround and communication was good the quality of the product was lacking.
  • I usually outsource locally, they are pretty good, sometimes I outsource to Victoria from Qld, but the road freight is too slow. If they want qld work they should prioritise this work to make up for the freight delay.

Laugh

One for the girls!!

A woman was sitting at a bar enjoying an after work cocktail with her girlfriends when Steven - a tall, exceptionally handsome, extremely sexy, middle-aged man - entered. He was so striking that the woman could not take her eyes off him.

The young-at-heart man noticed her overly attentive stare and walked directly toward her (as all men will).

Before she could offer her apologies for staring so rudely, he leaned over and whispered to her, "I'll do anything, absolutely anything, that you want me to do, no matter how kinky, for $20.00......  On  one condition".

Flabbergasted, the woman asked what the condition was.

The man replied, "You have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words."

The woman considered his proposition for a moment, and then slowly removed from her purse a$20 bill , which she pressed into the man's hand along with her address.

She looked deeply into his eyes, then slowly and meaningfully said....

"Clean my house."

Have a great week.

Kind Regards
